Parents had a fun and rewarding experience at Smart Parenting Convention 2019
The most-awaited event of the year, Smart Parenting Convention 2019, brought several speakers and more than 70 concessionaires offering special discounts and bundles in one roof. Held at SM Megamall, the event was co-presented by Nido, powered by PLDT Home Fibr, with minor sponsors — Jack ’n Jill, 3M Nexcare, and Ariel. There were games, raffles, booth activities, and three blocks of talks which aimed to help parents in taking on their role, whether preparing for a baby, recovering from delivery, raising a toddler and many more.

The talks were divided into three blocks — Pregnancy and Baby Block, Toddler Block, and Family Block. Each have several topics discussed with the attendees.
Pregnancy and Baby
Block For this block, topics discussed were Childbirth Options and How to Prep for Delivery Day by Dr. Maynila Domingo, Postpartum Care by Dr. Sybil Bravo, Baby Milestones and Red Flags To Watch Out For by Dr. Ina Atutubo, and Baby Sleep Basics by Maria Campos Lopez. Each speaker discussed the topics based on their own experience and knowledge as professionals of their fields. Dr. Domingo is a board member of the Bayside Council of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a clinical associate professor at the University of the Philippines – Manila. Dr. Bravo, on the other hand, is the Vice President of the Philippine Infectious Disease Society in Obstetrics and Gynecology. She is also a clinical associate professor. Dr. Atutubo is a diplomate of the Philippine Pediatric Society and a member of the Community Pediatrics Society of the Philippines. Maria Campos Lopez is a corporate lawyer by profession which later on became a sleep consultant after her first child experienced sleep troubles.
There was a panel discussion for the toddler block wherein they discussed The Facts and the Curious: FAQS About Parenting Toddlers Answered by Experts. Panel speakers for this block were Dr. Maria Josephine Yuson-Sunga, Dr. Francis Xavier M. Dimalanta, and Teacher Tina Zamora. Dr. Sunga is the medical director of Nestle Infant Nutrition Philippines while Dr. Dimalanta is one of the top behavioral and developmental pediatricians in Asia. Teacher Tina, on the other hand, is the directress of the Nest School for Whole Child Development.
Aside from the panel discussion, there was also a talk about Early Signs of Autism Spectrum Disorder which was discussed by Ms. Mona Magnu-Velez who serves as the National President of the Autism Society Philippines.
Last but not least is the Family Block. There were three topics under this block — Why You Need a Marriage Makeover After Kids by Joy and Edric Mendoza, Digital Parenting by Dr. Michelle Alignay, and How to Create a Home First Aid Kit with Patricia Cuasay Fruto. Joy and Eric Mendoza is the president of Homeschool global, a learning organization that now has over 3,100 students across 30 countries. Dr. Alignay is a registered psychologist and guidance counselor while Patricia is the marketing leader for the consumer business group — 3M Philippines.
Aside from the fun shopping experience, parents also learned a lot at the Smart Parenting Convention 2019.
