South Korean Superstar Hyun Bin Is The New Face Of Smart
The captain has landed with Smart
Mobile services provider Smart Communications, Inc released its newest campaign featuring the famous Captain Ri from South Korean series “Crash Landing on You” — Hyun Bin. This is the very first time a local telecoms company tapped a South Korean superstar to be the face of its brand.
Hyun Bin was first known for his role in romcom drama, ‘My Name Is Kim Sam Soon’ back in 2005. This year, he won the hearts of the Filipinos in the hit K-Drama series, “Crash Landing On You”. In an online press conference held earlier today, Jane Basas, Smart SVP and head for Consumer Wireless Business, shared that they really had the Filipino fans in mind when they tapped Hyun Bin.
“The ‘Hyun Bin Phenomenon’ is pretty much due to digital technology – Filipinos have developed the craze because they are able to stream his shows, hear the buzz about him online, share their excitement with their friends, and even get to interact with him through social media.This makes him a perfect ambassador for Smart as we empower Filipinos with technological solutions made easy so they can enrich their daily life and pursue their passions,” says Jane Basas, SVP and Head of Consumer Wireless Business at Smart.
Hyun Bin is going to Manila
Hyun Bin signed a one-year contract with Smart which includes three events that requires his personal appearance. And yes, he is going to the Philippines. Ramon Isberto, PLDT-Smart’s first vice president and public affairs head, shared that the schedule of his visit is still indefinite due to the COVID-19 situation but he is definitely coming to the Philippines.

According to Basas, due to the pandemic, the campaign was 100% done online — from the planning stages to clearing the storyboard with Hyun Bin and his management, to the pre-prod, to the actual shoot. Smart VP for Corporate Marketing and Strategy Lloyd Manaloto shared that even though it was really difficult to monitor the campaign shoot, working with Hyun Bin made it a breeze. The Smart executives also shared how nice and down to earth the South Korean superstar was.
Exclusive Hyun Bin Merchandise
The Smart executives also revealed that they will be releasing an exclusive Hyun Bin merchandise, which includes a 6’1” standee, starting June 7.
